The 7th axis serves to expand the workspace easily and flexibly, thereby increasing the effective reach of the robot. It combines the advantages of linear axes – scalable workspace – and the robot arm or cobot – increased degrees of freedom in component orientation.
Integration into existing systems and production lines can be easily achieved using adapter kits. In addition, the kinematics can be expanded with rotary tables or additional axes, enabling further degrees of freedom and increasing flexibility in production and manufacturing.
The linear axes and rotary tables can be universally adapted to the desired robot types. The special toothed belt drive module 160/15 UR is available for robots from Universal Robots. This is designed for direct mechanical mounting of the UR3-UR16e robot models. The module 80/15 PA is used for the UR20 and UR30 robot models.
Enlargement of the working area through 7th axis
Combination advantages of robot & linear axis:
Increased degrees of freedom in component orientation
Scalable application space
Easy integration through suitable adapter kits
Supplementary kinematics, e.g. by means of a turntable or additional axes

These elements are ideal for the levelling of assembly surfaces which cannot be mechanically processed or only with great effort. You can find more information and helpful tutorials here.
The robot (provided by the customer) was mounted on a parallel-driven version of the 115/25 module. For this purpose, the carriages on both axes were connected with a connecting plate. The axes themselves were finely adjusted with levelling and clamping elements.
